Senator for the Interior of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen , , Competence Centre for Deradicalisation and Extremism Prevention (KODEX)

The launch of the Competence Centre for Deradicalisation and Extremism Prevention (KODEX) under the Senator of the Interior in 2018 was intended to coordinate the activities and networking of the various departments and players in the field of deradicalisation and extremism prevention. By creating handling security in dealing with extremist phenomena and improving the exchange of information between the players involved, KODEX makes an important contribution to promoting basic democratic attitudes and providing protection against extremist-motivated acts of violence.

As the central body, KODEX must in particular perform the tasks and functions listed below:

• Central contact point of the federal-state-wide prevention network against (Islamist) extremism, both for the network partners and for those seeking advice and interested parties,
• Coordination of the strategic orientation of the interdepartmental prevention work as well as the needs- and demand-oriented further development of the concept,
• Accountability for deradicalisation measures and exit counselling in the field of tertiary prevention. In this area Legato-Disengagement has been commissioned by KODEX to carry out the work

in order to contribute to the prevention of specific Islamist-Salafist violence/attacks and to create security in dealing with religiousness and extremist tendencies.

KODEX operates the networking of all relevant democratic players and their initiatives, measures and projects in the field of extremism/radicalisation with a focus on Islamist extremism/Salafism at city and state level.
