Salam Advice Centre against Islamist Radicalisation ,

The "Salam Advice Centre against Islamist Radicalisation" in Rhineland-Palatinate helps to identify and deal with religiously based radicalisation, but also to resolve unfounded suspicions of radicalisation.

The target groups of the counselling are people who are on the threshold of radicalisation or who are already radicalised. It also aims to support their social environment, such as parents, relatives, friends, professional colleagues, but also youth workers, teachers etc. They can all be important in recognising radicalisation and offering ways and support to the mostly young people to leave the path they have taken.

Experience has shown that in the field of Islamist extremism there is always uncertainty as to whether specific statements or actions of individuals are indicators of radicalisation. How can clarity be provided in this respect without stigmatising the relevant persons with unfounded suspicions? What behaviour is appropriate to motivate people to question their emerging or already entrenched extremist beliefs? This makes parents, professionals or volunteers grateful to have experienced contacts who can answer these and many other questions.

Salam's counselling services are based on the individual needs of the client. The counselling centre offers support on clarification questions and accompanies radicalised people in their processes of distancing themselves directly and/or indirectly through their social environment or through professionals. It is important to build resilient relationships and support the development of new perspectives and ensure their implementation.

Salam's counselling is anonymous if desired. It is confidential, free of charge and, if desired, can be provided at home.

In addition to counselling, Salam also offers information events, workshops and further training for professionals. Salam sees as its central task the joint examination of the topics of Islam, living environments of Muslim citizens, Islamist extremism, stigmatisation of Muslims, prevention and distancing. The aim is to strengthen the experts' competence in prevention and intervention.

The Salam Counselling Centre offers systemically oriented specialist counselling by a team of trained specialists from the fields of social pedagogy, educational and political science and Islamic studies. It forms part of the Democracy Centre Rhineland-Palatinate, which is located in the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Care.
